An earlier report had said the Inter Milan player was only open to a switch to the Spanish La Liga to play for clubs like Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Barcelona. However, it looks like the Argentine international has had a change of heart and would welcome a move to play in the Premier League.

Martinez has been on holidays in the past weeks after he made history with Argentina at the Copa America tournament in Brazil held this summer. He was the central striker for the Argentines who won a title for the first time in 28 years by beating arch rivals and hosts Brazil 1-0 in the final thanks to the world class strike from Paris Saint Germain (PSG) winger Angel Di Maria.

Inter Milan are not in the best of times financially and that has cast doubts over the future of Martinez at the club as he has just two years left on his existing contract. The Athletic journalist David Ornstein said the Gunners are monitoring his situation at the San Siro and that Arsenal might need to offload Frenchman Alexandre Lacazette for them to make a move for Martinez. His name was mentioned during the discussion between Arsenal and Inter Milan officials but the Italian Serie A champions are only open for a straight cash deal for 23-year-old Martinez.

Martinez, who is valued at £77m, netted 17 goals and 10 assists in 38 league games. He was ever present in the Inter Milan team that won the Serie A title last season.
