Inter Awards Mazzarri With Contract Extension

Inter Milan recently awarded Walter Mazzarri with a contract extension that surprised many given that the manager had failed to reach the club’s objectives last season. Given with the task of reaching at least the top three in Italian Serie A, Mazzarri failed to get the club even into a top four place. At the end of the season, they finished a whopping 18 points behind third placed Napoli. This did not read well for the future of Mazzarri, which has been under intense speculation over the last few weeks.

With the start of the new season set to take place in two months, Inter were expected to part ways Mazzarri. However, they have surprised everyone by offering the manager a new contract. This is after president Erick Thohir made several statements regarding the future of Mazzarri. He had stated that Inter were not going to sack Mazzarri under any circumstances. He has stayed true to the word and has kept the manager for an additional year. However, it is quite possible that Inter decide to part ways with Mazzarri midway through next season if results do not improve.

In response to the new contract, Mazzarri has stated that he is now highly motivated to perform well for the new season. He is now starting the new campaign with a lot of optimism.

“I salute all our fans. I am fired up and happy to start the new season, which hopefully will begin on a high. The club has been very clear it is an important season. We were absolutely in sync during our dialogue over the summer and this made me even more motivated than I was at the end of last season. I am very pleased and it fires me up even more. Having the faith of our fans is very important for me. We have everything required to start this campaign with great optimism,” said Mazzarri.
